Uncited bio from Fetters: Sam'l, b. 27 Dec 1754, d. 26 Apr 1837, son of David and Penelope of Dover Twp, Ocean Co, NJ, married Alice Jeffrey, b. 8 Mar 1761, d. 1 Mar 1836, of his native county of a very important family with a long history. Emigra ted Jul 1818 to Highland Co, Fairfield, OH. Preceded by son Isaac, his wife and his four children who settled on Lees Creek where the McVey farm is now. At least 6 kids followed or came with their father to Ohio. Sam'l Sr. and Alice established th eir home on the ___ Road near Highland, later the Charles P. Woodmansee farm and now the Robert Manuel Farm.

Biographical Hist of Scioto Valley (p. 379): Sam'l Woodmansee moved westward to Highland Co, OH in 1819 and shortly after bought 700 acres of land a part of the original Conway Military Survey. Nearly all of the original purchase still being owne d by his descendants. Samuel and Alice were married in 1776, the year of the signing of the Dec of Ind. All the Children came to Ohio at various times except Penelope, Hannah and Lydia, all of whom married in New Jersey. Phoebe married Dr. Conway , a desc of Joseph Conway, the original owner of the "Conway Grant." GW Woodmansee has in his possession the original patent to 2400 acres of land given by the government to Lt. Joseph Conway. The Patent states that the land was given in acknowled gment of seven years of service rendered in the Revolutionary War by Lt. Joseph Conway, written on parchment made from the skin of a sheep, dated at Philadelphia Aug 1790, signed by John Adams.

Hist of Ross and Highland Counties, Ohio (p. 403): The Woodmansee family was first represented in the Township in 1818. Sam'l Woodmansee and his wife Alice Jeffrey came in that year form Monmouth Co, NJ and settled where Charles P. Woodmansee no w lives, and a number of children came in later years. Samuel Woodmansee died in 1837 at the age of 83.
