Lucy married Charles Peter Beaujean (aka Baujean) twice. The Boston marriage was Protestant and not recognized by the Catholic authorities on Guadeloupe, so she had to marry him again. On Guadeloupe, she was known as Lucie. Following the death of her husband in Guadeloupe in 1799, she moved to Newburyport, Essex Co.,Massachusetts in 1800 with her two surviving children. Charles (aka Pierre Charles Jr. or Charles Peter Jr.)aged 15 and Sylvester aged 3 and 1/2. Lucy wa s the beneficiary of her husband's 9 Oct 1800 Essex Co. probate, $1925.93 in assets minus $514.27 in debts and court costs. Her teenaged son Charles was assigned Captain Jonathan Coolidge as a guardian in 1800. Lucy lived just 6 more years and died in 1806 at age 43. Probate of her own goods was recorded 4 Dec 1806, mainly clothing. Following her death, young son Sylvester was assigned Levi Mills as a guardian in 1808. Sylvester stayed in the US and serv ed in the War of 1812. |
