John, born say 1610, married at Arley, Warwickshire, England, August 13, 1633, Isabel Burbage. He made his will August 18, 1658, four days before his burial at Ansley August 22, 1658. The will was proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury almo st one year later on August 20, 1659. Ansley, the place of John and Isabel's residence, is a small village in the northerly part of the county of Warwick, situated about ten miles from the city of Coventry, four from Atherstone, which borders on Leicestershire, and five from Nuneaton , a considerable market town. In this place, and near Ansley Hall, the seat of the Ludfords, he owned houses and lands, which passed to his posterity through several generations and may still be owned by his descendants. Isabel, daughter of Thomas and Anne (____) Burbage, was baptized November 10, 1611 at Great Packington, Warwickshire. She emigrated to Massachusetts with her sons Edward and Thomas and daughter Isabel, apparently in or about 1671. There she marre d ca 1674, as a second marriage for both, Elder Thomas Wiswall of Newton, MA. Following his death, Isabel contested with Wiswall's children to receive dower from his estate. By the winter of 1684 she had moved to her son Edward Farmer's house in B illerica. On April 7, 1685, Edward was appointed her guardian; after 17 months as an invalid, she died at his house on May 21, 1686, and was buried in Billerica the next day. Genealogist John Farmer called her "a woman of masculine courage and spi rit." |
