Tradition says that Jacob was the first man to drive a four-horse team into Ohio. They were said to have brought their cattle and it is assumed that fresh meat was obtained from wild game and fresh fish. It is also safe to assume that their "high ways" were little more than Indian Trails or rutty tracks made by others who had traveled Westward before them. They lived in their wagon until a log cabin could be constructed and in which they lived until a new home was built. The new home was q uite an imposing structure, built of brick, molded and burnt on the farm. It had two stories with eight rooms in the main section and a large addition for a kitchen. It had two spacious hallways, a large garret and a good cellar. |
